If I had a nickel for every time I've been asked, "Do you have a blog?", I'd be on a white, sandy beach in Aruba posting this from my laptop. Oh, and the ceeee-utest canbana boy would be bringing me excotic cocktails. ;)

First of all, huge props to Nate and Clint at 400lb.com, who created this wonderful place for me to post challenges, news, musings and fits of snark when the desire hits me. I'm sure I drove them both to drink with all the tweaks and edits (it's that pesky OCD side of me), but they were so patient and are two of the coolest geeks I know. Except Marla, of course. She redefines geeky in the best way possible.

To celebrate the premiere of this new blog, let's start out with a contest. Here's one of my favorite sketches from the January 2008 collection:

And since I [reluctantly] exclude peeps outside the US and Canada from the anniversary contest each year, we'll open this bad boy up to everyone. Feed my blog?

Okay, the only thing I know how to feed is my husband, my pups, cows and horses. Yep, I'm blogged challenged and you're probably wondering how I even manage to run a web site! In fact, so challenged that I had to email my friend Nic and ask her how to feed my blog, since so many of you asked about it. After she picked herself up off the floor from laughing so hard, she explained to me (in a way that only a kiwi can) that it's some kind of widget thingie that when you, the readers, provide your email address, will alert you when I've made a new post. Ok. I think.

So the long and short is that the geek wizards at 400lb.com [waving madly to Nate!] are putting this widget thingie on the blog and it will do whatever it's supposed to do. And I guess y'all know what that is. Because clearly, I don't. :}

And to think, I'm actually college-educated. *sigh*

Relay for Life 2008

As many of you know, I walked the Relay for Life 2008 this past weekend with an amazing band of nine other women (including my mom who is an eight-year cancer survivor). Our PageMaps team is called "Nip It in the Bud," but in the event program, it was typed out "Nip It in the Butt" -- seriously funny!!

Team PageMaps had a goal to raise $5,000 and check this out: we raised $7,375! WOW! Thank you again to everyone who donated to this event. The Billings Relay raised over $560,000 total. That's some good stuff.

I walked the Caregiver's Lap again this year. Somehow it felt different than last year. Perhaps because another year has gone by since Pam died and my feelings about the three months I cared for her have become more of a fond memory than a painful one. The 10,000+ luminaries had already been lit and as we walked the lap, everyone at the event crowded around the sides of the track and clapped. That was a pretty emotional ten minutes.

My mom and friend Barb walked the Survivor's Lap again - gets my tear ducts flowing every time. Both are BC survivors and I'm always so stinkin proud when my mom rounds the corner.

Team PageMaps is already making plans for Relay 2009. For whatever reason, my mom and aunt got it in their heads that we should dress up like cheerleaders and majorettes next year? Whhhhhat!!!???!! I voted for fatigues and combat boots, but could only get two other team members on board. I'm so toast. LOL And as if the sequin hats weren't enough this year -- I have definitely paid my girly-girl dues!

If you've never participated in a Relay for Life, I encourage you to do so. It is a rewarding, humbling experience, and constantly reminds you of just how precious life really is.

The geek God has spoken

Okay, so it turns out I didn't have to feed my blog after all. What a relief! What I spend in a month on pet food alone would probably make you faint and I was desperately trying to figure out what a 50 lb. bag of "bytes" would cost. ;)

Nate, super hero of all things geeky, has set up a feed thingie (very technical term) for this blog. Go to http://www.pagemaps.com/pagemapsfeed.php and select "Subscribe in Mail" from the far right-hand column. Assuming your browser and mail program (RSS feeds) are up to date, this should work for you.

Guess I should go try it to make sure, eh?

Tag, you're it

Ugg, this is the pitfalls of a blog . . . being tagged. Okay, I know it's not so bad but I hate talking about myself. Talking on the whole, well that's cool. I can talk a blue streak when I really get going. Just ask Marla.

I take a small measure of comfort in knowing that I get to turn around and tag someone else and in this case, FOUR victims. heh heh heh I'll have to contemplate other ways to reciprocate the tag Suzy placed on me. Look out girl, I'm gonna getcha! ;)

Ten years ago:
Ten years ago? Heck, there are days I can't remember what I had for breakfast! Oh yeah, I don't eat breakfast. Let's see ... ten years ago I was in still in Phoenix, getting ready to move back to Montana. All I can remember is how much I hated the heat. And to think, I lived there 16 years! What a nitwit.

Five things on today's to-do list:
1. Scoop puppy poo (two 10-week-old pups make A LOT of poo!)
2. Find the surface of my desk, which I haven't seen for two months
3. Get reacquainted with my washing machine, which I haven't touched since May (thank the good Lord for my awesome husband, who doesn't turn my skivvies pink)
4. Make Rosemary/Olive Oil bread
5. Have another cup of joe and contemplate why we adopted TWO puppies (ahahaaaaaaaaaaa!)

A snack I enjoy:
I have an obsession with gummy bears that borders on the obscene. Oh let's get real ... obscene doesn't even begin to describe it. It's more like a love affair. A hot, steamy, chewy love affair. *sigh*

Things I would do if I were a millionaire:
1. Charity begins at home. Word.
2. Open a "Dog Town" (like the one in Utah) here in Montana - that place rocks
3. Fly fish South America for three months
4. Move to a state that has AT&T cell phone coverage so I could buy an IPhone (HA!)
5. Buy season tickets to all Viking home games and become an obnoxious fan (as if I'm not already). Then revel in the fact that Brett Fart will NOT be playing for the Viqueens his year. Oh, and then giggle at the idea that Shawna will be reading this. *snort*

Wowzers, everyone outdid themselves in the blog contest! Tons of great layouts to choose from. My good friend Debi, who doesn't scrap, picked the winner for me. I had asked Jackson (my yellow lab) but he was so not interested. Dork. So without further delay, congratulations to Melanie J, whose layout "You Crack Me Up," is the weiner of the blog contest!

I asked Debi why she chose Melanie's layout and she said, "It had a serious CUTE factor." Personally, I really dig the row of irregular circles and the change-up on the second, lower photo. Oh, and she hand-journaled which is so sweet (I admire hand-journaling because my writing really blows -- I should have been a doctor). Melanie took the sketch and totally made it her own. Way to go, Melanie! Your BasicGrey boo-tay is on the way. :)

Vacation Challenge closed

Hey, I'm finally off to wet a line for the first time this season [the crowd goes wild] and to celebrate, let's have a "Vacation Challenge!" I've been busy cleaning and purging my obscene collection of scrapbook papers and embies and have put together a nifty, little package of goodies for the challenge winner. I know, I know—they're just pups. But dang, if it isn't nailed down, locked up or placed out of reach, it goes directly into their mouths. Libby and Harper are the ultimate destroyers of all things they can get their grubby, l'il paws on. And as any Golden owner knows, the stinkier and grosser that item can be, the better. We have cats. Need I say more? [ewwwwwwwww]

When I tell them they are naughty, this is the look I get. Yeah, it could melt the heart of the most hardened criminal. It takes admirable restraint on my part not to burst out laughing when I get this "look." They are so freakin' cute. And so gosh darn naughty. *sigh*

Congratulations to Lovely Cutler, winner of "Fleck's Fishing Vacation Challenge." If you read a couple of her goofy posts on the original challenge post, you'll see that she thought the page was supposed to be about HER vacation. Silly girl—I posted the vacation challenge because *I* went on vacation! *snort*

My good friend Cheryl judged the entries for me and, besides the fact that the photos are of one stinkin cute kid, she told me what caught her eye about Lovely's layout was how she placed the brackets "cat-e-wonk-us" (her word, not mine!) and loved the torn page from an old children's book. I must agree, it's a really terrific layout. :)

Thank you to everyone who entered the challenge. :) I'm glad I don't judge these things or everyone would be a winner and I'd be broke paying for postage. LOL Let's do another one sometime next week, k?

Dang, how do you bloggers keep up with your blogs? Is there some trick to this I am missing? I got an email over the weekend from a gal asking me a question about something on the blog and I said to myself, "Self, you have a blog!" Sheesh, I got to get me some blog mojo or something.

So hey, I'm here bloggin and thought it would be cool to have another contest. Who doesn't love a good challenge every now and again, right? And besides that, you can win some delicious boo-tay from Noel Mignon (one of her ever lovin' sweet kits). :) YAY! I'll post a photo of the winner's kit later this week.

Okay, I should preface this by saying that my mom rocks anyway, but this week, she rocks big. My mom lives in Minneapolis, home of my ever lovin Vikings. {As most of you know, I am a diehard Viqueen fan. Obnoxiously, totally out of my tree, insanely, crazy about the Viqueens.} My mom isn't. She would rather stick hot needles in her eyes than discuss football. Oh she tries. Really she does. She'll glance at the sports page on Monday to see if they won or lost the day before, mostly to take my temperature before emailing me Monday morning from work. If they won, she's Chatty Cathy. If they lost, she just says good morning and pretty much leaves it at that. But back to why my mom rocks.

This card came in the mail Saturday. My mom made it just for me. :) And on the inside it says, "Amen" (God-fearin' woman that she is). My heart soared when I saw ths card. For someone who loves football about as much as she loves my combat pants, you gotta give her props. She drew that ubercute viking, colored him in all nice and made the whole card purple and gold.

Mom, you da bomb baby. I *heart* you!

After going through the comments in the last couple of contest challenges, I thought it would be easiest to answer all questions here.

Yes, the blog challenges are open to EVERYONE, both US and abroad (heck, even if you live on the moon, jump right in!), unless otherwise noted.

No, you do not have to follow the same sketch size or how it is drawn. That's the fun thing about sketches—it's all up to YOU on how you want to interpret them.

If you've won a PageMaps blog contest in the past, please do not enter another one for three months. Gotta give everyone a chance at some cool boo-tay, ya know? ;)

Although it hasn't been asked, I want all of you to know that I do not judge these blog contest/challenges. I make my friends do it for me (the poor suckers that they are). I feel better about it and they get to hold something over me for a future favor! Beautiful how that works out, eh? LOL

Beginning this month, all of the monthly PageMaps will be available in PS and PSE-friendly digital layered templates. Ten templates (five 12x12, two 8½x11, two 12x12 double and one 8½x11 double) for $7.50 - that's just 75 cents per template!

I'm late, I'm late, I'm late for a very important date

Oh ugg ... sorry all, I should have posted the winners of the last challenge on Friday. I'm here in Minneapolis teaching at Scrapfest and just plum forgot! :( Well, that and my friend Debi dawlded just a bit on picking the weiners ("Two? I have to pick TWO?!?").

Congratulations to Becky Heisler and Dawn Morris, winners of the Noel Mignon kits in the HalfMap challenge. Both layouts are just fantastic! Debi really liked how Becky split her title into two parts and the photo area into four (very clever!). When she saw Dawn's layout, she told me, "Check out that kid, would ya? What a warrior!" Great job and congratulations to both of you!

I'll be back in the saddle Monday and will be posting another contest this coming week, along with a great prize package from Midnight Oil. Stay tuned!

Now that's a big DOH, huh? The season started out on a pretty grim note, but yesterday's game had me jumping on the couch and scaring the pups! Finally, a check in the W column - whoot!!!

To celebrate my 'Queen's first win, let's have a "something I love" contest. I thought it would be fun to use a SideMap for this one, but you are free to convert it to your favorite size.

It never ceases to amaze me how much trouble two pups can get into when they put their minds to it. Libby (on the right) is the leader of the "naughty brigade," and poor Harper just tags along for the ride (and she's the smart one!).

I snapped this photo just moments after the two of them had completely disseminated this really cool wagon planter I have off the front porch. What were once glorious geraniums had quickly been reduced to balls of roots with pathetic, broken stems and pink flowers hanging by mere threads. The funny thing is, that wagon has been sitting there all summer. Yes. ALL. SUMMER. LONG. But I guess Libby got a bee in her bonnet and decided it would be great to tear it all up. Apparently, Harper had nothing better to do so she joined in the destruction.

I scolded them as best I could, but as you can see from these irresistable faces, it's pretty hard to be mad for too long. Gawd, I'm such a sucker. ;)

Midnight Oil Boo-tay Prize Package

Here's a photo of the prize package up for grabs in the current "Something I Love" sketch challenge. Midnight Oil Scrapbook Designs has generously donated four of their fabulous acrylic albums: a Clearly Cute Take Along, a Clearly Designed 5, a Long Haul 5x9, and a Clearly Designed Steps album. Although they appear white in the photograph (each page is covered with protective release paper), once removed, the acrylic shines through! The Big Easy wasn't a "Brees"

Wow, not only have my Viqueens had the spotlight on Monday Night Football two times this year, but both were road games. That's like walking onto the field with one hand tied behind your back. Of course, the first game didn't work out so well (a loss to the Slackers), but last night's game was off the hook wild and put another check in the W column by beating the Saints!

I will admit I felt pretty bad for Reggie Bush, who ran 176 yards on punt and kick-off returns. The guy puts on some serious after-burners when he runs and I remember how much I loved to watch him play at USC.

And let's give credit where credit is due. QB Frerotte may be an old timer, but the guy took some serious hits last night and stayed on his feet. Not every QB in the NFL can take that kind of punishment.

So to answer your burning questions ... YES I was obnoxious last night ... YES I scared the puppies ... and YES I lost my voice. Ain't no fairweather fan sitting up here in Montana, yo. ;)

Congratulations to Erin Keller, winner of the "something I love" sketch contest! This month's contest victim ... err judge ... my friend Lindsay, loved the center title area and the hidden journaling on the tag. She also said, "The color scheme made me want to bake something fall-ish!" (I think she baked pumpkin cookies, the dork!) Kudos to you Erin—it's a beautiful layout and your Midnight Oil acrylic boo-tay is on the way!

Think Pink sketch contest contest closed

As you know, it is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Are you thinking pink? Please schedule your annual mammogram if you haven't already. If you are too young to have a mammogram, remind ten women you love. Early detection save lives. Seriously. My mom is an eight-year BC survivor because her cancer was caught at the earliest possible moment. Okay, off the soap box and onto fun stuff!

To celebrate NBCA, I'm inviting all of you to create a layout based on this sketch. No, your layout doesn't have to be pink! And no, it doesn't have to be about breast cancer. Instead, scrap about something that is meaningful to you, the way breast cancer is meaningful to me.

This contest starts today and runs through midnight on Monday, October 27, 2008 (MST). The winner will be announced here no later than Friday, October 31st. Be creative, inject your own style and have a bunch of fun with the sketch!

The winner will receive a loaded prize package of Melissa France "Thankful" papers and embellishments, stamps, rub-ons and ribbons. I will post a photo of the prize package later next week. :)

I have officially redefined obnoxious

Okay, first of all, perhaps I should define "obnoxious." I faithfully watch my Viqueens play every Sunday. I lose my voice from yelling at Childress so much for his coaching acumen (or serious lack thereof), I scare my poor puppies, I wear purple skivvies (for good luck), and I arm chair quarterback every, single minute of the game. And I do all of this from home. Every. Single. Sunday. Obnoxious? Yeah, most of the time. Devoted? You betcha!

Fast forward to The Dome in Minneapolis this past Sunday afternoon. Same drill sans the puppies, but live and with a bucket of popcorn. Yes, people were staring at me. Yes, my poor husband wanted to move to another seat. Yes, Childress still needs to be 86'd. And no, Frerotte is not the QB answer for the future of my poor Queens. But be still my little Viqueen heart ... I was AT the game ... at the Dome ... in a sea of purple and gold. For the very first time. And as ugly as I dare say it was, the Purple People Eaters put another check in the W column and are tied for first in their division.

I ate a braut. I had a beer. I watched them play football from the 49-yard line. I can so die happy now. ;)

p.s. Hey grill, tried calling you at half time but you didn't answer. How's come? heh heh heh

Congratulations to Helen Salthouse, winner of the Think Pink contest! I roped my good friend, Judith, into judging this contest and she loved Helen's layout. As she told me, "It has such a romantic, days-gone-by feel to it and the little seaside embellishments are so darling. And hey, could that kid be any cuter?!" I couldn't agree more. Turns out, they are photos of Helen's little brother, who is near and dear to her heart. Great job, Helen!

Judith pleaded with me to post an honorable mention for this contest when she hit Pinky's layout. Her tongue-in-cheek approach to the health of her breasts was spot on for this month's BC Awareness. Pinky, take good care of those twins! ;)

Thank you to everyone who entered the Think Pink contest. There were awesome entries and I didn't envy Judith the job of picking a winner!

MM May-June 09 Page Call

I've been wanting to post a page call for the Memory Makers Magazine PageMaps column for the longest time, but for various reasons the timing has not worked out. Until now! This page call is for the May-June 09 edition of the magazine and here are the details:

The theme for the article is how to convert 12x12 sketches to 8½x11, and vice versa. For purposes of this page call, the conversion will be from 8½x11 to 12x12. This is very important and any pages that are submitted in an 8½x11 format cannot be considered for the article. Please read all of the follow important details about your submission, as many of them are the rules of the magazine.

Your page must include at least one photo, a title and journaling. The products you use on your page must be widely available to most scrapbookers and not a discontinued item. Please note the time of year for this issue (May-June) so that you don't scrap your Halloween, holiday or winter photos (LOL!). The magazine's theme for this issue is "All in the Family," although you are not required to follow that theme. Since the article features one layout per sketch, I will be choosing one submission based on this posted sketch. That artist will be paid $50 for his/her layout and it will be returned to him/her by the magazine.

This is NOT a blog contest so the rules are a bit different. Submit your entry directly to me at becky@pagemaps.com. Please type "MM May-June" in the subject line; include your full name, address, phone number, email address, supply list and any additional information about how you converted this 8½x11 sketch to a 12x12 layout; attach a hi-res jpeg of your layout to the email. The deadline for all submissions is Tuesday, November 18, 2008 (5pm MST) and the artist selected will be notified via email. Since this layout is for publication, I will not be able to show the page here on the blog.

Most importantly, please do not post links to your submission on this blog.

Be creative, be innovative and inject your personal style into your layout. Have fun with the sketch, changing it up to fit your needs as necessary. There is no right or wrong way to do this, except that your final page must be 12x12. :)

Daaaaang, y'all really got yer scrap on for the MM page call! I received over 150 layouts. *gulp* I'd choose every last one of you but then the issue would be about the size of a JCP catalog, my editor would probably get a bit upset with me, and .... well, you get the idear. I really appreciate everyone's enthusiasm and creativity, especially in converting the sketch from one size to another. Lots of great ingenuity that gave me many "why didn't I think of that?" moments! Because of the fast-approaching deadline on this issue, I will be selecting a page by the end of today. We'll definitely do this again for another MM issue in the future!

I think it's time for a contest, don't you? :) I've got this nifty pile of boo-tay just begging for a new home - check back Friday for more details!

Ye Be Thankful page contest contest closed

It's almost that time of year again. Time for a four-day weekend of football (yay!). Time to eat more turkey than you could have thought was humanly possible. Time to bust out the Cool Whip and bury a piece of pumpkin pie in a cream cloud of white. Time to count our blessings. Time to be thankful for all that we have.

I am thankful for many, many things, but waking up to these two adorable faces is definitely at the top of the list. Although they are two of the naughtiest, most mischievious 6-month-old pups I've ever had, I can't resist their more endearing qualities. Libby is a happy puppy. Truly, madly, off-the-hook happy. All. The. Time. Harper is still a bit on the serious side (although she is lightening up since she got fixed), but she will shower you with kisses at the drop of a hat. So despite the fact that a pot holder, two socks, a used swiffer cloth, two pieces of BasicGrey paper and one tube of chapstick bit the dust this week, I am so thankful to call them mine. :)

A big congratulations to Tracy Kosofsky and her winning layout in the "What I Am Thankful For" sketch contest. I roped my friend Tammy into judging and she was so struck by how *real* Tracy's digi layout looked! "How'd she do that?" she asked. Being a paste-eating purist myself (*grin*), I have no idea, but it is one stunning layout! Kudos, Tracy and thank you to everyone who entered.

Hero Arts card sketch contest contest closed

The response to both year-end sketch contests was fabulous! Thank you to everyone who entered -- it certainly made the judging tough for Mara and Debbie. :) (You've got to be wondering at this point exactly how I rope my friends into judging these contests!)

In the Scrap Stop Page Contest, join me in con-gratulating Jessica Hornung, winner of the $20 gift certificate. My friend Debbie judged this contest and couldn't resist the adorable photos and coffee theme of this layout, not to mention the fact that the horizontal sketch looks so great in vertical! Personally, I think Debbie saw the coffee to-go cup and that was all she wrote (Debbie can *smell* a Starbucks miles away!). The layout is awesome and I think my favorite part is the grungy, inked up title. Great job, Jessica!

Mara's judging job was a wee bit tougher in the Hero Arts card contest, as she swam through more than 100 entries. But when she chose Mandy Starner's gift certificate card, her first words to me were, "Why didn't you make me one of those for Christmas?" LOL! By converting the sketch to square and adding a couple of well-placed folds, Mandy made this fantastic GC holder, which she tells us she made several of for the holidays. Way to go, Mandy!

Check back here on Tuesday, January 6th, when we'll be starting off the new year with the first sketch contest of 2009 that has one "sweet" BasicGrey prize!

Congratulations to Mellisa Ross, winner of the BasicGrey Bittersweet sketch contest! My friend Teri judged this contest (someone who has never scrapped a day in her life) and was struck by the photo and authentic, honest journaling of Mellisa's page. Her "play-on-words" title was perfect for the "sweet" theme of the contest.

Personally, I loved seeing one of my favorite old BasicGrey collections, Black Tie. It is a beautiful back drop to Mellisa's bold title and was a great choice of paper. Super job, Mellisa -- enjoy the new Bittersweet papers!

A pretty cool tag

My friend Marla tagged me and my initial response was, "UGGG!" That is, until I read what the tag was about. It's super easy and a really fun way to share a random photo and the story that goes with it. Just go to the place on your computer where you store your photos, then to the sixth folder, then to the sixth photo. Select that photo, pop it onto your blog and tell the story. Easy schmeesy!

Of course, the catch is that your photos are organized in the first place! LOL Mine are ... sorta. Hey, at least they are in their correct year! So this is the 6th photo of my 6th folder in 2008 (since 2009 doesn't even have six folders yet!).

This little shaver's name is Ali and his momma's name is Gilly (even though you can't really see her in this photo). Chris and I were in Dubai last October (waving madly to Lani and Dalya at Paper Lane!!) and met Ali just days after he was born. As you can see, he was far more interested in lunch than he was in meeting us. Now I've seen my share baby critters, but this guy was ceeeeeee-ute! I will say that he didn't smell so good, but hey -- he didn't spit on me either! :)

Rather than tag the usual suspects, I randomly chose six peeps from posts on this blog. This should be fun!

MM Sept-Oct 09 Mini Album Call closed

This mini album call is for the PageMaps article in the Sept-Oct 09 edition of Memory Makers Magazine and here are the details:

The theme for the article is MiniMaps. The sketch above is based on a 8x8 page. If you would like to use a 6x6 album, reduce all measurements by 25%. Your submission should not be any larger than an 8x8 album, but you can use a non-square/irregular size if you'd like. The album can be pre-manufacturered (chipboard, acrylic, etc.) or one you make from scratch. Adapt the same sketch for your cover. For instance, use pattern paper in place of the photos, etc.

Please read all of the follow important details about your submission, as many of them are the rules of the magazine.

Your submission must be one completed album cover and a two-page spread from the inside of the album. The remainder of the album pages can be covered in patterned paper or cardstock for photography purposes.

Your two-page spread must include at least one photo, a title and journaling, and be based on the sketch above. The products you use in your submission must be widely available to most scrapbookers and not a discontinued item. Please note the time of year for this issue (Sept-Oct) so that you don't scrap your spring-time photos. The magazine's themes for this issue are weddings and Halloween, although you are not required to follow those themes. Since the article features one sample album per sketch, I will be choosing one submission based on this posted sketch. That artist will be paid $100 for his/her album and it will be returned to him/her by the magazine.

This is NOT a blog contest so the rules are a bit different. Submit your entry directly to me at becky@pagemaps.com. Please type "MM Sept-Oct" in the subject line; include your full name, address, phone number, email address, supply list and any additional information about how you applied this sketch to a mini album; attach a hi-res jpeg of your album cover and two-page spread to the email. The deadline for all submissions is Tuesday, March 17, 2009 (5pm MST) and the artist selected will be notified via email. Since this layout is for publication, I will not be able to show the chosen submission here on the blog.

Most importantly, please do not post links to your submission on this blog, or share your submission on any online galleries, blogs or photo storage sites.

Be creative, be innovative and inject your personal style into your album. Have fun with the sketch, changing it up to fit your needs as necessary. There is no right or wrong way to do this, except that your final submission must be a mini album cover and a two-page mini album spread. :)

Two winners are twice the fun!

When my friend Connie judged the Pushing Pixels contest, she had a really hard time deciding between a paper entry and a pixel entry. In fact, she was having trouble evening narrowing it down within the two categories. So, we decided to double the prize and award the PageMaps Templates to both a paper artist and a digital artist.

Congratulations to Cheryl Ashcraft, whose digi page really caught Connie's eye. She loved how Cheryl mixed up the sketch and repeated the same photo and title multiple times. All of the little details like the ticket stub and angel wings, really added a lot to this layout.

Brenda Neuberger did some serious fussy cutting on her layout, giving the page so much dimension and depth. Hand-cut twigs of paper frame the page and Connie though the photos were absolutely adorable!

Congratulations to both winners and thank you to everyone who entered this contest.

Congratulations to Jill Sarginson, winner of the "What's On My Mind's Eye" sketch contest. My friend Joan agonized over the more than 250 entries received in this contest, but when she saw Jill's layout, she was sure it was her favorite. Joan commented, "I love all of the dimension and texture on her page, combined with authentic, hand-written journaling. I think it's great that Jill scrapped a photo of herself, too!" I couldn't agree more. One of my favorite parts of her page are the butterflies and the stitching. It's an outstanding page all the way around!

Spring card contest winner

Congratulations to Amy Smith, winner of the Spring card contest! My friend Stephanie was the judge of this contest and, after looking at all of the entries, informed me that she chose three winners. "Seriously Fleck, I just can't decide!" she proclaimed. "Dude, you have to pick one," I replied. "Well, okay."

Another day later (Lord, did she agonize), she chose Amy's card, most specifically for the floral and butterfly treatment along the open edge of the card. "That's some wicked die-cutting girl, and lookie at all the sparkly thingies!" (Can you tell Stephanie is not a paper artist?!? LOL) I loved her selection for sure! Although the photo doesn't really do it justice, it opens into a tri-fold card, and the inside is embellished as well.

This past weekend, we flew out to Eugene to surprise my FIL for his 90th birthday (and boy, was he surprised!). Of course, we left the fur babies with our vet, where they enjoyed indoor, air-conditioned kenneling and serious spoiling by the staff. So, Saturday morning, my cell phone rings and it's my vet. The following convie ensued:

vet: Hello Becky!

me: Hey doc, is everything okay?

vet: Well, the girls seemed to have gotten into a bit of a fight last night.

me: Oh really? How bad was it?

vet: Well (pause), we had to sew up Harper's ear this morning.

me: Really?! Is she okay?

vet: Oh yes, fine, just fine. Just missing a bit of her ear.

me: Missing? As in gone? Where did her ear go?

vet: I believe it's inside Libby's tummy.

me: (pause) I see. Well, if you wouldn't mind, could you please put "Hannibal Lecter" up for sale on the bulletin board and we'll be picking up Jackson and Harper on Monday morning?

vet: (big laugh) We'll talk about some ideas when you get back.

Seriously, I'm still shaking my head. Libs and Harper are sisters and have rough-housed and tangled with one another a time or two in the past year we've had them. But something changed in both of them since they were spayed last winter. It's like one of them gets a bee in her bonnet and they take turns deciding who's going to be the Beta in the household. Most of the "fights" are harmless, but we've had a couple that landed one of them in the ER for stitches. Everything I've read, everything I've been told, has assured us that they would "grown out of it." Ummm, NOT. So, Tuesday we'll have hormone tests ran on both of them to see what's going on. Meanwhile, I've got Hannibal Lecter and Vincent Van Gogh running around the house as if nothing happened. Not kidding here -- they are like BFF's again.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? If so, I welcome any and all suggestions!! Note to self: never (I repeat, NEVER) get two females at the same time!

No wonder I never had kids! lol

And we have lift-off

Libbers and I have been in agility training since May, with an unplanned break in July when I hurt my back. (Tripping on the corner of the A-frame ... not a good thing.) And let me tell you, she was just hitting her stride, completing 10 out of 18 contacts with no refusals. What a rock star! During this hiatus, while I was working desperately to stand up straight and not walk like Festus on Gunsmoke, Libby went into total naughty mode. A search and destroy mission like no other. Five weeks and 20 PT sessions later, the physical therapist released me, so back to agility school we went.

When we hit the arena last week, it was like we never left. She raced full tilt to the A-frame (her favorite contact), ran up to the peak, and barked and barked, as if to say, "I'm baaaaack!" I'm pleased to report that Hannibal Lecter has transformed back to her sweet, charming self ... happy as a clam, now that she has a "job" again. Of course, she now thinks that running full speed down our hallway to jump over the back of the couch, constitutes "practice." (And landing on the poor cat for extra points doesn't hurt.) Um, yeah. lol

Congratulations to Jing-Jing Nickel, winner of the Studio Calico sketch contest! Her layout, Berry Friend, was "just the right combination of adorable girl photos and playful die-cut monsters embies," according to my friend Anne, who judged this contest. This new gallery book will showcase fantastic layout ideas on all kinds of themes like family, holidays, special events, vacations and more. Kudos to Kay Rogers and Cheryl Ashcraft, winners of the BasicGrey double header contest! Kay's paper layout really caught the eye of my friend Allie, who judged this contest. "I really dig how she flipped the sketch horizontally and the patterns she used are great. And can you believe how cute her kid is?!?" I couldn't agree more and I really liked how Kay broke up the photos by matting them on white. It really helps tame all the busy papers. Great job, Kay!

In digital, Allie loved the "romantic" feel of Cheryl Ashcraft's page. "The photos are wonderful and there is so much dimension. The camera is adorable!" Indeed, and I really liked how Cheryl played down the colors and kept everything muted and soft. Love your page, Cheryl!
